Con el fin de prevenir, controlar y minimizar las plagas que puedan afectar la producción del cultivo de algodón en el departamento del Cesar, el Instituto Colombiano Agropecuario, ICA, fijó las fechas para la temporada 2021-2022.
A través de la Resolución 100637 del 15 de julio del 2021, el Instituto formalizó las fechas de registro de agricultores, venta de semilla, siembra, destrucción de socas, periodo de veda.

Estas agremiaciones deberán enviar los listados de lotes inscritos en el formato establecido por el ICA, al correo de la seccional Cesar, en los plazos establecidos.
Es así como la fecha establecida para la venta de semilla certificada con destino a la siembra de cultivos comerciales, por parte de las agremiaciones algodoneras a los agricultores e inscripción de los mismos, será del 25 de julio hasta el 10 de septiembre del 2021.
Por su parte, la fecha de siembra de algodón para la temporada 2021-2022 en el departamento del Cesar se fijó del 15 de julio al 15 de septiembre del presente año. Mientras que la fecha de recibo de algodón semilla en las desmotadoras será a partir del 15 de septiembre del 2021 hasta el 30 de marzo del 2022.
Asimismo, el Instituto estipuló las siguientes etapas y fechas para la destrucción de socas de algodón y de los cultivos abandonados, así:
Primera etapa: destrucción total de la parte aérea de las plantas de algodón inmediatamente se termine la recolección de cada lote en particular, por medios mecánicos o manuales, en ambos casos esta deberá quedar suficientemente picada o desmenuzada para lograr su total descomposición, fijándose como fecha límite el 20 de marzo del 2022.
Segunda etapa: Destrucción de los rebrotes, plantas espontáneas y chapolas que hayan germinado producto de las semillas dejadas en campo, fijándose como fecha límite el 20 de abril del 2022.
Igualmente, el ICA estableció como periodo de veda del 20 de abril al 20 de julio del 2022, tiempo durante el cual se prohíbe la siembra de algodón, la existencia de socas, plantas de cultivo de algodón y cultivos de algodón abandonados.
